The office Christmas party is one of the few events where the whole company is in one room, dressed up and relaxed. It is also one of the easiest events to photograph badly: dim lighting, a packed dance floor and a schedule that changes as the night goes on.
If you are organising a staff party in Dublin this year, a little planning makes the difference between a folder of blurry phone shots and a gallery your team will actually share. Here is what to think about before you book.

1. Decide What the Photos Are For
Christmas party photos usually end up in three places:
- the company intranet or internal newsletter,
- LinkedIn and recruitment content,
- a private gallery for staff to download their own photos.
Knowing which of these matters most tells the photographer what to prioritise. Recruitment content needs natural shots of people enjoying themselves. An internal gallery needs as many people as possible, not just the dance floor.
2. Plan the Coverage Around the Running Order
Most Christmas parties follow a similar shape: arrivals and drinks, dinner, speeches or awards, then music and dancing. The most useful photos come from the first two hours, when everyone is still arriving, talking and looking their best.
Typical coverage includes:
- arrivals and the welcome drink,
- team and department group photos,
- the room and table setting before guests sit down,
- the CEO or MD speech and any awards,
- candid moments during dinner,
- the first hour of the dance floor.
For most office parties, three to four hours of coverage from arrivals onwards captures everything that matters. Coverage until the end of the night rarely adds better photos.
3. Group Photos: Do Them Early
If you want every department photographed, schedule it during the welcome drinks. People are fresh, nobody has left yet and the photographer can work through a list quickly. Share the list of teams in advance so nobody is missed.
4. Think About a Photo Station
A simple branded backdrop or a corner with good lighting gives everyone a chance to get a portrait they will want to use. It works especially well for larger companies where not everyone knows each other. It also keeps people from crowding the photographer during dinner.
5. Check the Venue Lighting
Hotel ballrooms and restaurants in Dublin are often lit for atmosphere, not for photography. A professional photographer will bring off-camera flash so the photos stay sharp and natural without killing the mood. If your venue has a stage or screens, mention it in the brief so the speech photos are planned properly.

6. Agree on Privacy and Sharing
Not everyone wants their photo on LinkedIn. Before the party, decide which photos are internal only and which can be used publicly. A simple note in the invitation is usually enough. A good photographer will also avoid unflattering late-night shots and leave those out of the final gallery.
7. Ask About Delivery Times
The best moment to share Christmas party photos is the next working day, while people are still talking about the night. Ask for a quick selection the morning after and the full edited gallery shortly after. Read more about how fast corporate event photos are delivered.
8. Book Early in the Season
Most Dublin office parties fall on Thursdays and Fridays in the first three weeks of December. Experienced event photographers book up quickly for those dates, so it is worth confirming as soon as your venue is fixed.
A Short Checklist for Organisers
- date, venue and running order,
- number of guests,
- list of teams for group photos,
- speeches, awards or special moments,
- photo station or backdrop requirements,
- where the photos will be used,
- delivery deadline.
Send this to your photographer and most of the planning is done.
