One fateful Monday evening, my inbox pinged, and an email from a man named Ryan caught my attention. Little did I know that his secret would lead to a beautiful journey I would forever cherish.
Ryan, with a hint of secrecy in his voice, said, “Marcel, I need a quote.” I’ve heard this request many times, often with scarce details, making the quoting process a challenge. However, this time was different.
“I’m coming to Ireland with my girlfriend, and I want to propose to her at the Cliffs of Moher. It has to be a surprise, so I need a photographer to join us, follow us discreetly, and capture the moment when I kneel,” he shared, revealing his heartwarming plan.
Without hesitation, I replied, “Not a problem, Ryan. I’ve been an undercover photographer on several occasions in the past, even on Dublin’s bustling Grafton Street. Let’s do this.”
We quickly ironed out the details, and we had three weeks until the secret engagement with an undercover photographer. Everything seemed grand.
As the day approached, I couldn’t help but notice how swiftly time flew by. With my gear packed, I headed to Galway, arriving a day early for some much-needed rest. The journey to the Cliffs of Moher was another two-hour trip, and I opted for a bus ride, smooth and uneventful. I was on a mission.
When I reached the cliffs, I still had plenty of time. I enjoyed a coffee and took a moment to savor the breathtaking view to the right.
At 11:30, the tour bus carrying Ryan and Lily arrived. Somehow, I missed spotting them initially, but a text from Ryan guided me, “Marcel, we’re heading right. Follow us.” He had mentioned they’d be wearing sweaters, a useful clue. I discreetly trailed behind them.
They walked briskly, but at one point, I texted Ryan, “How much longer?” His response, “We’re approaching the Co Clare area.” They paused, searching for the perfect spot. That’s when I knew it was happening.
Quickly, I prepared my gear and quietly approached them. When Ryan noticed me, his face relaxed. He took Lily’s hand, gazed at the horizon, and then back at her. The wind was strong, tousling Lily’s hair, making it challenging for her to keep it in place.
Finally, Ryan knelt. He had waited for the few tourists to pass. With a trembling voice, he said, “Lilly, will you marry me?” Her face reflected surprise, and she covered her cheeks as tears of joy streamed down. “Yes, Ryan, I love you, I will,” she exclaimed.
It was the moment I had been waiting for. I captured every angle and wide shot, shooting continuously. The onlookers couldn’t contain their excitement, and cheers filled the air. Lily was amazed by the stunning rock on her finger, and Ryan was overjoyed.
I approached them, extending my warm congratulations. Lily looked taken aback, not expecting a man who appeared ready for an Arctic expedition (it was indeed chilly) to snap hundreds of photos in such a short time.
We were introduced, and with a resounding “yes” from Lily, our engagement photoshoot began. Love and happiness surrounded us, sealing this unforgettable chapter in their love story.
